Coral Fenech
Fine Artist
Born and raised in Southern California, I love both the ocean and the desert which influences my artistic perspective and techniques. My Grandmother was an avid landscape watercolorist in San Clemente and shared her love for painting with me at an early age. I have also passed that onto my daughter who is now studying drawing and painting in high school.
I have close to 20 years of both self-taught and education-based learning that includes the CSULB Fine Art Program which I attended in early 2000. At that time, I focused on Scientific Illustration using pen and ink, graphite, and charcoal. I worked as a Scientific Illustrator for the NOAA Southwest Fisheries in La Jolla where I drew collected fish specimens using pen and ink for marine encyclopedias. As time progressed, I have since gravitated towards vibrant color and abstract painting using acrylic, inks, and texture paste/gel. My favorite surface to paint on is wood canvas panels.
My home and studio are on 3 gently sloping acres, named Blue Cactus Ranch. Residing on a desert ranch in Southern California, I pull visually and spiritually from all that I experience each day into abstract interpretations of this ruggedly beautiful environment. My goal is to share this inspiration I feel from my surroundings using color, texture, and movement that can be felt when viewing my work.
